Monster & Mink Rag Blanket

My friend Holly is expecting a little boy and asked me to sew her a baby blanket for him. She picked out the fabric and let me arrange it how I wanted. This is the first time I ever tried using the mink (cuddle & soft from JoAnns) in a rag blanket. In fact, I usually avoid sewing with mink like the plague because I find it annoying to work with.

That being said, I love LOVE the way it turned out! This may be my new favorite way to sew rag blankets.
As a side note, I am so happy that the whether is getting colder and that gardening and canning season are over.  More time for sewing blankets and reading!!!! :)

Girl Giraffe Rag Blanket

I made this cute little blanket for a friend and neighbor expecting her first baby girl. She was going with the pink and green jungle theme, and this is what I finally decided on. I LOVE it.

Springtime Mother's Day gift blanket

A very wonderful friend asked me to make a blanket for her so that she could give it to her mother for a Mother's Day gift. She said that her mother liked pastels. The following is what I came up with. I LOVE it and the "Spring" feeling to it. There is a close up and an overview picture of it.
The finished size would be considered a "throw size" blanket and I, obviously, finished it with the rag look.  Like the previous "Cowboys" blanket, I used batting as a center to each square.  I thoroughly enjoyed making this gorgeous blanket!

PS...The pictures do not even begin to do the awesome colors justice. :)

"Cowboys" themed blanket

A really good friend of mine from high school requested a "blue king sized blanket" and then later added to his request "can you make a Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Red Wings block?" I was all maybe. Well due to finding supplies, we decided to scrap the Red Wings and just go with the Cowboys, SO...the blanket was born. I LOVE it!
As stated, the finished size is a king and I ended up with 5 Dallas Cowboys blocks (1 in each corner and 1 in the center).  In the top left corner Cowboys block, I stitched in a date that is very significant to my friend and his girlfriend.  Each block has batting sewn into it to make it a "heavier" lightweight blanket.

Finished Recent Blankets

I haven't even realized how FAR behind I have been lagging on the blogging! Oops! Oh well, what do you do.

So over the month of January, I received some blanket orders. Almost all of them were rag blankets. I completed 2 peace sign rag throw blankets (didn't get pictures), 1 twin size John Deere Girl rag blanket, 1 twin size reversible shark/baseball rag blanket, 1 "Monkey Business" baby rag blanket, and 1 John Deere girl baby rag blanket. It has been a lot of fun.

I was also able to complete my very first ever Chenille baby blanket. This one was ALOT of work but it was really fun to watch it come together. I really like the style, colors, and the finished "quilted" look.

I am currently getting ready to sew 2 twin size blankets (one girl, one boy) for my friend Niki's kiddos. I also have an order in process for a twin size reversible Batman/Spiderman blanket for a friend in Oklahoma.

So that is the update on the Ryan's Ragz "business." I have LOVED every minute of making these blankets for others and I appreciate all the support and kind words from everyone.

Pieced Square Rag Blanket

For this blanket, I started with 5" squares and arranged them with 9 per big block. Each big block measured roughly 12 inches, and I kept the pattern of the small blocks flowing throughout. Once I had all the little squares pieced into the big squares, I sewed them all together and made a rag blanket. The back material is a solid dark purple.
This blanket went to my wonderful friend Annie and her soon to come baby girl. I finally remembered to give the gift to her today, so I can finally "unveil" it to the public. I had a TON of fun making this blanket. It was time-consuming, and I loved every minute of it.
I LOVE the finished product, which was coupled with 3 really adorable matching bows made by my amazing friend Holly at Bowgiggles.

Lots of Girly-ness going on

Thanks to my awesome friend, Holly, and her idea, I have been sewing non-stop since last Wednesday-ish. JoAnn's has become my favorite store and I have used up every coupon that I have possibly been able to find. But the result is 6 more finished rag blankets...5 of which are baby blankets and 1 of which is a little shy of a twin blanket (which has been sold to a cousin in Colorado, if the snow clears so we can drive there).

So here is my posts with all the finished products.

This is the same style and color of blanket as the last post, but it is just larger.

I LOVE doing this and I currently have 3 orders for blankets when I get home after Christmas. Just remember that even though all my current pictures are of girl rag blankets, I can do SO much more :)

Purple and Green "Peace" Blanket

I am totally LOVING these rag blankets. I think, unless I get an order for something different, I am going to be sticking with making these for awhile. They are so fast and so easy...not to mention forgiving if you make a mistake.

My awesome friend, Holly, and I are trying an experiment. She makes and sells girls' hairbows. She wants to try to sell a blanket and some hairbows as a set. So, I have agreed to make several "unique" baby girl blankets for her. I have had a lot of fun so far, and I have only finished one ;-). The following "Peace" blanket is the first of 4 or 5 I am making for her. (Note: The background color is a really pretty dark purple...the picture makes it look blue.)

I totally LOVE the colors and the way it turned out. Click here to see Holly's awesome bows that she makes. She only has a few on her website, but she is totally awesome and creative and can make anytime of hairbow.

Boy Rag Blanket-Strips

So, I have officially decided that all things "ragged" are my favorite blankets to currently sew. This is my third finished one. I LOVE it! Awhile back, a friend posted on her blog a strip rag blanket. Before that, I had only seen them in block form. Anyway, I had to give it a try. From start (cutting fabric) to finish (all the snipping), I think that it only took me around 2 or 3 hours. Then of course I had to wash and dry it, but that doesn't count in my "completion" time.

Here is the over all picture of the finished blanket.

Here is the close-up photo.

This one is going to a neighbor that recently had a baby boy this past week. This family also showed a very generous and outpouring of love and support when Ryan passed away. I feel very honored and blessed to have them as neighbors and that I can show my appreciation in this small way.

John Deere Rag Blanket

Seriously, I LOVE making these blankets. So fast and easy! I started this one this morning about 9 and I had it completely done and in the washer by 230 this afternoon. Anyway, I love anything John Deere. It is my upbringing. You can take the girl away from her tractors, but you can't take the tractor out of the girl (or something like that).

This blanket was a special service project blanket. My great friend Holly in Utah requested it for Sub For Santa basket that she is putting together. So, it is a wonderful cause and I was happy to help.

I used the same pattern for both the front and back. Only the front has the "rag" look though. I LOVE the way it turned out.

Girl Plaid Rag Blanket

I have been wanting to make a rag blanket forever. I really like the "rag" look, and they have always looked SO simple. Well, quite a few months ago, I cut out some square blocks and never got around to sewing what I really wanted to make. Since I have been bored out of my mind the last few weeks, I decided to sit down and try my hand at making the rag baby blanket finally.
Here it is!

I LOVE the way it turned out. Not to mention that it was SO easy to make. I had a good majority of it done in one afternoon WITH 3 children running around (I was watching my neighbor kids). I think that this may be my new favorite blanket. I am so going to try to different styles and layouts for sewing the rag blanket.
